    Course Overview 

    This course has now been completely redesigned with a new concept of teaching endoscopic sinus surgery together with a new international faculty. 
    6 modules of problem-based dissections. Each module consists of lectures on pathophysiology, indications for surgery and surgical approach, followed by a demonstration dissection and hands on Cadaver workshop. 
    Advanced areas of surgical management will be covered.  
    A Live surgery is planned on Friday morning.

    Speakers

    ​All members of the faculty have a wide experience in the  management of sinus disease and endoscopic surgical techniques.  They are joined by leading physicians involved in the management of upper airways disease, who all have academic appointments at major teaching facilities.

    Invited speakers

    ​Prof. Simon Carney (Adelaide)

    Simon Carney is Professor of ENT Surgery at Finders University in Adelaide, South Australia. He has authored 115 full publications,15 book chapters, 2 surgical dissection manuals and has received several awards for his contribution to ENT research and teaching. He has received over $4.5M in research funding and his work has over 4000 citations with an h-index of 37.  He is a Past-President of the ANZ Rhinologic Society, Vice-Chairman and Director of the not-for-profit organisation Asia-Pacific Otolaryngology Surgical Training, a former member of The Medical Board of Australia and a member of the Commonwealth Government Panel of Clinical Experts. He is Associate Editor of The American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy and on the Editorial Boards of Rhinology and Clinical Otolaryngology.  

     

    Prof. Thibault Van Zele (Belgium)  

    Prof. Dr. Thibaut Van Zele (MD, PhD) is currently associate professor at the Ear-, Nose and Throat department at the Ghent University Hospital. In 2002 he finished his medical studies at the Ghent University. He trained in Belgium at the ENT-department at the Ghent University Hospital and in France at the Head and Neck Department of the CHRU Lille University Hospital.His clinical activities are focused on endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis, benign and malignant sinonasal tumours and endoscopic skull base surgery in collaboration with the department of neurosurgery.    He worked in the Upper Airway Research Laboratory at the University of Ghent (Prof Dr Claus Bachert) from 2002 to 2006 and obtained his PhD degree in 2008 on role of Staphylococus aureus in chronic rhinosinusitis nasal polyps and the therapeutic consequences. His research interests now concentrate upon tissue engineering of upper airway mucosa, improvement of wound healing after endoscopic sinus surgery and the management of epistaxis. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and multiple book chapters.
