Position: Senior Medical Officer (GP ENT)
Location: Rockhampton, Queensland

We all know the reality of regional ENT waitlists. In Central Queensland, we’re addressing this head-on by integrating high-level GP Special Interest clinicians into our Department of Surgery. We are looking for an SMO who is technically proficient, procedurally confident, and ready to be a functional part of a multidisciplinary surgical team. This isn't about working in isolation; it’s about working alongside our specialists to ensure the 250,000 people in our catchment get the care they need.
The Clinical Scope
This role at Rockhampton Hospital (305 beds) offers a diverse procedural load that you simply won't find in a metro GP setting. You will have the clinical autonomy, within your approved scope, to manage inpatient and outpatient services, including on-call requirements.
- Outreach & Equity: You will lead our surgical outreach program, taking ENT services to hubs like Gladstone, Biloela, and Emerald. It’s a chance to provide definitive care to patients who would otherwise face significant travel barriers.
- Education & Standards: We expect a commitment to evidence-based practice. You’ll be involved in clinical audits and quality reviews, and we’d value your input in teaching the medical students and junior doctors who rotate through our unit.
The Environment
Rockhampton Hospital is the primary 305-bed referral hub for the region, offering the complexity of a major hospital with the tight-knit culture of a regional team. We value the "GP Special Interest" model as a sophisticated way to manage high-volume specialty needs while maintaining a patient-centred approach.
The Practicalities
Rockhampton provides the infrastructure of a major referral center but retains the common-sense culture of a regional hospital. We’re offering a total package of up to $403k, and we’ll provide the relocation support needed to get you and your family settled. If you’re a clinician who values professional respect, clinical variety, and a life where the Great Barrier Reef is your weekend default, let’s have a conversation.
For a clinical discussion: Please contact Dr. Christopher Lewis at (07) 4920 6235
