About the role

Specialist Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon working with the ENT team, providing specialist care to patients, training of Surgical Education and Training (SET) trainees and junior doctors as well as participation in the after-hours roster.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and COVID-19.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRACS or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and registrable as an otolaryngology - head and neck surgery specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Subspecialty fellowship training will be well regarded.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Applicants nearing the completion of their training are welcome to apply.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in an after-hours and on-call roster for the ENT department.

About Otolaryngology Department

The department of Otolaryngology head and Neck Surgery provides adult and paediatric services to South Tasmania for primary and secondary care, and it is the tertiary referral Otolaryngology Department for Tasmania.

The unit is currently staffed by 3 Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) FRACS consultants, 1 Clinical Medical Officer, 2 Unaccredited Registrars and 1 Resident. The department was accredited by RACS to employ one Accredited Registrar from 2024.

We provide an ongoing on call roster and we expect the ENT Surgeons joining us in the future to share this roster with other consultants.

The Department is involved in research and in teaching medical students from University of Tasmania, our junior staff and in training doctors from other specialities and nurses.

Our Outpatient clinics and Theatre facilities are supported by qualified and dedicated administrative staff and high standard equipment.

There are great opportunities to work in private practice, too if this is part of the work potential candidates intended to do.

Fixed term part-time day work (with on-call) working up to 36 hours per fortnight commencing in June 2023 for a period of 5 years.

Duties

• Provide elective and emergency services for ENT patients including diagnosis, treatment and postoperative care for patients, both inpatient and outpatient, at the RHH.

ENT Surgeon - Otology - Bondi

I have been holding a clinic on Thursdays at Healthy Hearing & Balance Care, Bondi Junction since 2011. The patients have otological problems. There is an operating microscope and suction.  There are excellent audiological and vestibular test facilities and transtympanic therapy and electrocochleography is undertaken in the rooms.
