The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital is pleased to conduct the 9th Multidisciplinary Conference on Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery for Head and Neck and Endocrine Surgeons and Endocrinologists at Sofitel, Noosa on 9-11 November 2023.

This course is designed to demonstrate the most effective surgical techniques, philosophies and technologies in the treatment of thyroid and parathyroid conditions. This is an intensive 2½ day course in beautiful Noosa, well known in Australia as the best beach, dining and lifestyle resort town in Australia.

Once again we have an outstanding international and national faculty being put together including:

Dr Greg Randolph returns to us from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Hospital in Boston. Greg has a special interest in nerve monitoring during thyroid surgery. He is the author of “Surgery of the Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands”, seen by many as the preeminent text book in this area. He was also on the ATA committee that produced the current guidelines.

Dr Mike Tuttle is an endocrinologist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is personally involved in the management of sixty new thyroid cancer patients each week. He has been published widely and has a special interest in the risk stratification of thyroid cancer. He was on the ATA committee that produced the current guidelines.

Dr Catherine Sinclair is dual fellowship trained thyroid surgeon and laryngologist from Melbourne. She has a special interest in radiofrequency/ethanol ablation of thyroid pathology. She worked for 9 years at Mt Sinai in New York, and is currently on the Guidelines and Statements committee of the ATA. We are welcoming Catherine for the first time to Noosa.

Dr David Shonka Is welcomed from the University of Virginia. David is a head and neck endocrine and oncologic surgeon. David has a busy clinical practise focused on surgical treatment of endocrine disorders of the head and neck and treatment of head and neck malignancies. David serves on the Endocrine Committee of the AAO-HNS and the Endocrine Committee of the AHNS.

Dr Peter Angelos returns to us once again. Peter is an Endocrine Surgeon, a named Professor at the University of Chicago Medicine, Deprtment of Surgery.  He is a contributor to the ATA guidleines. His special interests include paediatric thyroid cancer and diseases of the parathyroid glands.

The Australian Faculty brings it's usual energy and insights ands we especially thank Bruce Robinson and Mark Sywak.

This meeting is designed for surgeons and surgeons in training and is invaluable also for Endocrinologists. Saturday morning will include: Dr Mike Tuttle to face Dr Emily MacKenzie and Dr Don McLeod in a 2 to 3 hour interactive endocrinology session with cases and scenarios. Dr Tuttle has a huge knowledge of the subject and is an entertaining and motivating speaker. There is also the practical hands on training session earlier on Saturday morning for trainees of all ages.
