University of WA, Perth
This long running annual two-day course offers participants a significant amount of hands-on time with fresh whole head specimens (i.e. two temporal bones per dissector, not just temporal bone sections). This enables participants to practice surgical procedures in conditions similar to the operating room including soft tissue dissection, all aspects of basic and advance temporal bone dissection, implantable hearing devices (Cochlear implantation, bone conduction and middle ear implants), ossiculoplasty, stapes surgery, middle cranial fossa surgery and balloon Eustachian tube dilation. CT scans of each head/temporal bone will be made where available to participants just prior to the course to enhance the operative experience. Dissection time is maximised with up to 80% of the course dedicated to dissection time.
Supervision is provided by experienced local and international faculty. Lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea will be provided on both days. The course is held at the University of Western Australia’s world-class CTEC facility on the banks of the beautiful Swan River in Perth. The timing of the course in the late spring usually sees long warm sunny days and blue skies that Perth is famous for. Please contact Professor Jafri Kuthubutheen to register your interest.
