To support Otolaryngologists, Head and Neck Surgeons and accredited surgical trainees in OHNS in building research capability and undertaking research projects with relevance to clinical application, through the provision of funding towards the employment of a part-time research assistant, research nurse or graduate student.


Term of Award: Up to two (2) years.



  • Applicants must be a member of the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons or the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgeons, or an accredited surgical trainee.
  • Applicants must demonstrate limited research experience and limited external research support at the time of application.
  • Applicants must demonstrate that through provision of a Clinical Research Grant, their capacity to undertake research directed towards an improvement in OHNS patient care, diagnosis and/or treatment will be significantly enhanced.

The level of support is up to AUD 50,000 per annum, all inclusive. The Grant must be administered

through an Australian or New Zealand institution.



Applications are open during August and September, with outcomes being communicated in December. Please note that this Award may not be offered every year. Awards on offer are announced on the GPRWMF website in June and July each year. Full submission requirements are made available when the application round opens, including Instructions for Applicants. All applications must be submitted through the online Application Portal.

  • Details of the Chief Investigator, including an up-to-date CV, details of all research funding received during the past ten years and applications pending or to be submitted within the year.
  • Project details, including Title, Administering Institution and intended Head of Department
  • Research Proposal (refer to Instructions for Applicants for details).
  • Project Budget (template provided).
  • Signed Terms and Conditions of Award (proforma provided)
